Common Name: Oceanic White Tip, White Tip  Whaler, Whitetip Shark

Scientific Name: Carcharhinus longimanus

Size: Up to 4m

Found in: Deep tropical and temperate waters

Population Status: Vulnerable to Extinction (IUCN 2007)

Tooth Shape:

Tooth shape is triangular with serrated edges for cutting.




Reproduction:
Viviparous
Oceanic Whitetips give birth to live young with litter sizes of 1-15 pups. Gestation is around 12 months. Newborn pups are around 65cm long.



Interesting Facts:

Their diet can include oceanic bony fish such as tuna and dolphin fish aswell as turtles, stingrays, birds gastropods, squid crustaceans and mammal carrion.
